Dr. Laura Makaroff is a primary care physician and senior vice president of cancer prevention at the American Cancer Society (ACS), where she leads initiatives focused on cancer prevention, early detection, and survivorship.

Prior to joining the ACS, Makaroff served as a senior clinical adviser in the Bureau of Primary Health Care at the Health Resources and Services Administration. She completed a health policy fellowship at Georgetown University and the Robert Graham Center in Washington, D.C., and her residency in family medicine at the University of Colorado.

Her work is informed by both clinical and personal experience. Following her husband’s diagnosis with pancreatic cancer, she has focused on supporting patients and families and addressing the broader impact of cancer on communities.

She is also a parent of two children and continues to advance efforts to reduce the burden of cancer for patients and families.
